Top 10 Wineries in Tuscany
Tuscany is the home of Sangiovese, and its three great expressions — Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino, and the Super Tuscans of Bolgheri — supply the canon of modern Italian fine wine. These ten estates are the names that move markets.
1. Antinori, San Casciano
The Antinori family has made wine since 1385. Tignanello (Sangiovese- Cabernet) and Solaia, both born here in the 1970s, kicked off the Super Tuscan movement and changed Italian wine forever.
2. Marchesi de' Frescobaldi, Florence
A thousand-year wine family with ten Tuscan estates — Castello di Nipozzano in Chianti Rufina, Castelgiocondo in Montalcino, joint ownership of Ornellaia and Masseto in Bolgheri.
3. Biondi-Santi, Montalcino
The founding estate of Brunello di Montalcino. Ferruccio Biondi-Santi isolated the Brunello clone of Sangiovese in the 19th century; the Il Greppo estate is the historical heart of the appellation.
4. Tenuta San Guido, Bolgheri
The home of Sassicaia — the wine that created the Bolgheri DOC and remains its only single-property denomination. Cabernet on the Tuscan coast, with a Bordelais reference frame.

Visiting Tuscany
Tuscany is set up for the wine traveller. Florence and Siena bracket Chianti Classico; Montalcino sits south on a hilltop; Bolgheri is on the coast west of Grosseto. Most estates accept appointments, and many run scheduled visitor programmes with restaurants and overnight stays.
